Safety tips for driving the EN1 highway in Southern Mozambique

I just finished a road trip down the EN1 and felt generally safe, though I recommend avoiding night driving between Inhambane and Maputo due to limited lighting and potholes. We were stopped at two routine police checkpoints near Xai-Xai, but having our original vehicle registration and insurance papers handy made the interactions very quick. Just keep your windows up in town centers and you shouldn't have any issues.
